Message from the Principal
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN SALE
Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
We are delighted with how well our children are settling into their routines and working well. Online assessments are being carried out to inform teachers about student learning and to guide their planning for the remainder of the term. We encourage parents to continue conversations with teachers about their child and to maintain the relationships strengthened during the Remote Schooling period.
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, Friday October 23rd will be the Grand Final Day Public holiday and a school closure day. Children are invited to wear their team’s footy colours on Thursday October 22nd. We look forward to a colourful day.
Book Week also begins next week and will roll over into the following week with Dress Up Day scheduled for Friday October 30th. This will allow families time to gather costumes.
The theme for Book Week is: Curious Creatures, Wild Minds.
This year’s theme of “Curious Creatures, Wild Minds” looks to conjure thoughts of nature, jungles, sea creatures and dinosaurs, of imaginary and mythological animals, and of adventurers, explorers and scientists. We look forward to seeing the children in their costumes and enjoying a great day. Unfortunately, there will be no Whole School Parade on this day in light of the current COVID 19 context. Book week activities will take place within individual classrooms.
We ask families to notify the school if they are planning not to return in 2021. We have a number of children on waiting lists across year levels and are working towards confirming class sizes for 2021. Families are asked to contact reception via email or phone. Thank you.
CHILD SAFETY
Just a reminder that school gates open at 8.30am, with yard supervision starting at this time.
We thank families for supporting our staggered start and finishing times. We continue to remind families to observe the traffic signs located around the school boundaries, particularly near the school drop off zone. I congratulate children for using the pedestrian crossings appropriately.
Just a reminder to families that although Remote Schooling has ended and children are not spending as much time on devices for learning, it is still important to monitor what and how children are using social media and games to connect with others. The e-safety website provides excellent tips for supporting children to use technology safely.
This week, we have started trialling Behaviour Record sheets to monitor behaviours in the playground. We will be able to monitor patterns of behaviour and where they occur in an effort to support children while playing and to remind students of our School Wide Expectations of Respect, Resilience and Safety. There are opportunities to record positive and challenging behaviours by individuals and groups of students.
