CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN SALE
Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
We thank all families who participated in Parent/Teacher Interviews this week via phone. We would like to see our communications with families continue throughout this current COVID context and build upon the relationships and communications that strengthened during the Remote Schooling period. Teachers are happy to organise times for googlemeets and phone calls, recognising families have very limited access to the school context at this time and unfortunately, it looks as though these restrictions will remain tight for a little longer.
Child Safety-COVID 19
Families should have received a letter today regarding the wearing of face masks. Children at primary school are not required to wear facemasks, however, they are welcome to do so.
As of Monday, August 3rd, 2020, adults who need to enter school grounds via the foyer for a very specific purpose, must wear face masks. Likewise, children who are not students attending our school and are over the age of twelve, must also wear a mask if entering school grounds for a specific purpose. Any visitor who is unwell cannot enter school grounds.
Posters have been displayed at the front of the school as a reminder.
Staff will be wearing masks while on yard duty. When teaching students, they will not need to do so.
All of these protocols have been implemented for the safety of all students, staff and families and are inline with DOSCEL guidelines.
Families are also reminded that if any family member is being tested for COVID 19, children within the family cannot return to school until a negative result is given for the family member being tested.
If children are not well, they must remain at home until all symptoms are resolved.
All Victorians are encouraged to be tested if they display symptoms of COVID 19.
Parents and Friends
We would like to thank the P&F for purchasing a range of new balls for classroom use. Basketballs, soccer balls, netballs and footballs of different sizes and colours have been distributed to classes this week.
Mrs Duffield has also purchased some portable goal posts to create additional football areas for different classes. I am sure they will be put to good use.
Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour - Student Management
Teachers will be trialling a new monitoring system that identifies particular patterns of behaviour in the school yard and classroom. Tracking sheets that detail who, where, when, the type of behaviour being observed and how it was managed will be available for teachers to implement within the next fortnight. This process allows us to identify any areas of concern, explore why they are taking place and to support students in their interactions with others. We will also celebrate the positive behaviours that align with our schoolwide expectations of Resilience, Respect and Safety and record details of these behaviours. Sheets are simple to complete and will provide us with valuable information about student behaviour in different contexts. They will be reviewed regularly.
We pray that you all enjoy a safe and good weekend.
We are thankful for the opportunity for our children to be attending school.
BE STILL, BE THANKFUL, FIND GOD
For children in the playground, their laughter and their fun,
BE STILL, BE THANKFUL, FIND GOD
For places and times we gather, our homes, our schools, our Church, parks and playgrounds.
BE STILL, BE THANKFUL, FIND GOD
For Nan & Pa, Oma & Opa, Nona, Baka and Tata.
Their friendship, honesty, simpleness, insights, humbleness,
BE STILL, BE THANKFUL, FIND GOD
For friendships, long lasting and newborn,
Helping hands, kind words, gentle whispers and quiet comfort,
BE STILL, BE THANKFUL, FIND GOD
For families spread apart, uncertain of the future, cherishing the past,
BE STILL, BE THANKFUL, FIND GOD
Lord! May you be our solace as we navigate our way through the challenges and uncertainty of each day,
MAY WE BE STILL, BE THANKFUL, AND FIND YOU OUR GOD.

To all the staff, teachers and students I would like to say a huge thank you on behalf of myself and my staff for the great effort you're all putting in to help and work with us cleaners to keep your school as clean as possible. On a daily basis I have teachers thanking me for all the work the cleaners are doing and how grateful they are. It is always great to hear compliments and to know that our effort is appreciated. People can always be quick to criticise mistakes made or to say you're not doing a good job, so its extremly nice to hear the praise when you are doing a good job. So thank you all. When I go up to do the day cleaning the students are all so friendly, well mannered, very helpful and always have a smile for us, with many stopping to have chat and a laugh. Lots of students have also told us what a great job we are doing. I know that praise for doing the right thing well goes a long way to make us all be better people and encourages children to be the best they can be. So to all the students - "thank you all so much, you are doing a great job picking up all your things off the floor at the end of the day and helping to have your rooms ready for the cleaners which makes our job so much easier and quicker. You make us feel like a very special part of the St Thomas Primary School family. Parents, you should be extremely proud of your children, they are an absolute joy to be around".

Geard-up Cleaners
To celebrate, we are asking all foundation students to come dressed up as their 100 year old self.
Dress up ideas include pretend glasses, curlers in hair, talcum power/flour in hair, walking sticks, beards, moustaches, shawls, brooches, hats, hair in a bun, dressing gowns, handbags, braces, beads, scarves, glasses chain. Be creative!
Please bring to school a collection of 100 objects for display. Some ideas include pasta, small lego pieces, dried beans, pom poms, rubber bands, shells, beads. Bring them along in a snap lock bag with your child's name clearly written on it. We do not want you to have to buy something, so please ask for ideas if you need help.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, we cannot share lunch together. Therefore, we suggest that you may like to send something special in your child's lunch box as a treat.
Just a reminder that children are to wear their full Winter uniform during Term Three.
- Hair is to be tidy and tied up and back for girls and boys if it falls below the shoulder.
- Sneakers are to be worn with the sports uniform only.
