CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN SALE
Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
Child Safety
Today, children participated in online anti bullying sessions as part of our child safety responsibilities. These sessions revolved around understanding bullying: What is bullying? and strategies to manage it. Next week, children in Years Three to Six will address cyberbullying and the responsible use of the internet. These sessions are presented by “Bully Zero”. They will continue into 2021.
We remind students to take care when riding and walking to school and to be aware of the traffic conditions around them. Students and families are asked to use the crossings available to them. As you are aware ,the mornings and afternoons are very busy times with traffic from three schools using roads and footpaths.
2021
All booklists for 2021 should have been returned today. If you have not already done so, it is best that you take your lists to CJ Stationery as soon as possible. You are reminded to keep a copy of the booklist for yourself.
Please know that we will be looking at staffing and class groupings for 2021 over the next few weeks and hope to have details completed by mid December. Much thought and care is taken into organising class groupings. We ask that you trust teachers in their judgements as they work towards what they believe is the best option for your child. Foundation teachers are working towards settling class groupings this afternoon using their observations, Kindergarten Transition Statements and conversations with kinder teachers and individual families to inform their decision making.
Student Leaders
The process of seeking student leaders for 2021 has begun. Those wishing to take up positions as School Captains or House Leaders have completed letters of application. Interviews will take place on Monday November 23rd 2020. I congratulate all students who have nominated themselves for these roles and wish them the very best. I enjoyed reading their letters and the reason they aspire to be leaders. Allison Arnup, Tony Capurso and Nicki Bourbaud will form the interview panel for this year. Applicants will be shortlisted after interviews are completed and those students will have the opportunity to present speeches..
Year 6 Graduation
We can confirm that Year 6 Graduation will take place on Tuesday December 15th 2020 onsite.
In line with current restrictions, the ceremony and luncheon is for students and staff only.
Fr Peter will be available to celebrate Mass within the guidelines set for liturgies and Masses during this COVID 19 context.
Details regarding Graduation and sharing the ceremony online will be communicated with families when finalised. Year 6 teachers have been exploring a number of options to celebrate the end of the year throughout the term and have had to navigate their way through guidelines set by governing authorities, the availability of venues and their COVID 19 management plans.
Updated guidelines for Graduation ceremonies were released yesterday and teachers have been speaking with Head Office to clarify expectations.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Take Care

5MC Civics and Citizenship - Preferential Voting
On Thursday 5MC spent time talking to Danny O"Brien, Gippsland South's electorate representative and member of The Nationals party. The children had the opportunity to ask Danny some 'I wonder' questions before he explained preferential voting to them, a concept they had role played in the classroom as part of their Civics and Citizenship unit. We thank Danny for sharing his time with our students and assisting them with their learning.
Is your family leaving St Thomas' in 2020?
We ask families to notify the school if they are planning not to return in 2021. We have a number of children on waiting lists across year levels and are working towards confirming class sizes for 2021. Families are asked to contact reception via email or phone.
