CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN SALE
Our school is a place of faith and learning
Dear Parents and Families,
This weekend, we celebrate the beginning of Advent, the season of waiting and preparing for Christmas. It is a time to reflect on how we live the message of Christ, to love and serve others, sharing the spirit of peace, hope and joy. In amongst the challenges that present themselves in following the way of Christ, we are reminded of God’s everlasting love and forgiveness when we stumble.
COVID 19 UPDATES
COVID 19 guidelines and restrictions have proven a challenge for many, including schools. Yesterday, November 26th 2020, we received some welcome updates regarding student assemblies, Graduation ceremonies and visitors to schools. We await further advice today around “Permitted Activities” and will provide some information around these events and what they mean for our school community. Again, I remind families that we are bound by these guidelines and must work within their framework.
50 YEAR CELEBRATIONS
It is time to pull out your Seventies gear, as we get ready to celebrate 50 years of Education in our community.
A set of activities are planned for students in Week 10 and we will share details with you next week as we need to crosscheck planned events with guidelines due today from Head Office.
However, dress in your Seventies gear on Wednesday, December 9th, 2020.
ST VINNIES CHRISTMAS APPEAL
Each year, St Vinnies calls for help to support families within our community over the Christmas period. Non perishable food items to place in hampers are welcomed. We ask families if they can, to donate goods for the canned food drive. Children may bring items to school over the next fortnight. Thank you.
PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Parent/Teacher Interviews have been set for Week 11. These interviews are optional, however, they will provide an opportunity for parents to discuss reports with teachers. Reports are due to go out on Friday, December 11th, 2020. Year 5MC will hold phone interviews during Week 10.
Online registrations for the remainder of the school will open on Monday, November 30th, 2020.
JANUARY TESTING DAYS: January 28th & Jan 29th 2021
Online registration for January testing days were also due to open on November 30th, however, this will be carried over into Week 11. Class teachers for 2021 will be announced in Week 10 and the name of your child’s 2021 teacher will be included in reports.
STUDENT LEADERS 2021
We congratulate all students who nominated for 2021 Leadership positions
Interviews were completed on Monday and all successful applicants will be present speeches next week to the student community. We hope to announce our School Captains and House Leaders for 2021 at the end of next week.
CHRISTMAS CARDS
It is the time of year where children like to share Christmas cards and wish their friends a Happy Christmas and New Year. We just remind families that food is not to be shared at school.
Thank you.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Take Care

Hi there,
One of our students Lilly McInnes has made the decision to make a difference by cutting and donating her hair to be made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition. Please help and raise funds for Variety.
https://hairwithheart.variety.
Wigs cost families up to $6,000, lasting 1-2 years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth.
By making a donation to Variety - the Children's Charity, you can help provide a wig or other vital equipment to a child in need.
Thank you for helping kids in need.
SEASPRAY SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB NIPPERS PROGRAM
Want to be part of the Nippers program at Seaspray Surf Life Saving Club this summer?
If so, it’s time to get registered and get along to Aqua Energy to have your swimming ability assessed.
Nippers is a beach education program for children aged between six and 13 that introduces participants to life saving. They learn valuable water safety and life saving skills and gain confidence in the surf. Sessions are held on Sunday mornings at Seaspray over summer.
All participants must have their swimming ability assessed by a qualified swimming instructor. Assessments will be done on Sunday 6 December at the outdoor pool at Aqua Energy. Children in the Under Six age group do not need to be assessed.
The assessment times are:
9am Under Sevens and Under Eights
9.30am Under Nines and Under Tens
10am Under Elevens and Under Twelves
10.30am Under Thirteens and Under Fourteens
Please enter from the outdoor pool entrance on Guthridge Parade. Those who are not Aqua Energy members may be asked to pay the entrance fee. If you are an Aqua Energy member, please tell the gate attendant.
Before assessment day, please make sure your child or family is registered and the appropriate Seaspray Surf Club membership is paid.
While you’re at the pool, you will be able to buy this season’s Seaspray Surf Club merchandise, including hoodies and long sleeve T-shirts. It’s a great chance to get some sneaky Christmas shopping done…
For more information about Nippers at Seaspray and the season ahead, visit https://www.seaspraysurfclub.org.au/club-activities/nippers/.
Non Interest Loans for Families and Financial Wellness
2020 has been a year of challenges for us.
With the new school year fast approaching, we know many parents and carers will struggle to cover the cost of essential school items. This additional stress on families is especially difficult for those already experiencing financial hardship.
I am writing to let you know of our successful microfinance initiative available locally from Anglicare called No Interest Loans (NILs) with no interest, no fees, no charges, ever.
Every year, we help parents and carers on low incomes (in particular those on Centrelink) in Gippsland to apply for a NILs loan of up to $1,500 to cover the cost of essential school items such as uniforms, books, laptops, stationery, school camps, and musical instruments as well as other essentials such as washing machines, fridges, car repairs, medical and dental expenses.
What is a NILs loan?
A NILs loan is a safe, affordable alternative to high-interest payday loans or rent-to-buy leases. It’s not a payday loan or a bank loan but a form of ‘circular community credit'. This means when a borrower makes a repayment to NILs, the funds are then released to someone else in the community. NILs is supported by not-for-profit Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand, with funding from the Australian Government. the State Government and in partnership with NAB.
To help raise awareness of NILs
If you feel that your students and their families could benefit, I encourage you to raise awareness of NILs loans for education costs within your school community.
To assist I’ve included a copy of an A4 advertisement you may wish to publish in your school newsletter AND/OR print and display in your reception area. You may also wish to inform parents via email or post, particularly when school booklist reminders are being distributed, and to notify your school counsellor and accounts team if parents call to request a payment plan.
Parents can find out more information about NILs including eligibility criteria by contacting: Anglicare Victoria at 1800 286 260 or nils.gippsland@anglicarevic.
If you would like additional information or materials, please contact myself directly by calling 1800 286 260 or emailing nils.gippsland@anglicarevic.
